När det gäller käpphästen så du får komma ihåg att delar av norra och västra Skottland var under norsk överhöghet under tidig medeltid - därav det något kryptiska namnet på Fastlandsskottlands nordvästra del - <i>Sutherland</i>. Det är inget annat än "sydlandet", alltså Norges södra del. Slaget vid Largs var en ren uppgörelse mellan kungarikena Norge och Skottland. Norrmännen hade förvisso attackerat Skotskt områden längs kusten men om det gör dem till vikingar så borde även engelsmännen räknas in i det facket. Det var iofs inte mycket till slag - båda sidor hävdade att de vann, att det alls kom något ut av det handlar främst om att den norske kungen, Håkon Håkonsson, oväntat dog på Orkney senare samma år och efterlämnade ett maktvacum. Det är således ren okunskap som gör att de pratar om "vikingar" i Largs.

En viking var alltjämt ordet för sjörövare, och Skottarna torde uppfattat norrmännen, sannolikt delivs rättvisande, som just sjörövare, även år 1263.
Hur stor skillnad torde det varit på en ledungsman från 1000-talet och en från 1100-talet, eller på den vanlige bondekrigaren i allmänhet? Ingen, ingen alls som vi skulle se.

När vi rekonstruerar våra "hirdar" och "följen" så är det alltid fråga om en minoritet av de stridande som vi avbildar. De vikingar som ni inte vill ha, kanske skulle kunna illustrera uppbådade bönder och ledungsmän på ett förträffligt sätt. Ge dem några kittelhattar när ni kommer till 1200-talet bara.

Håller för närvarande på med en liten intresseinsamling. Det finns nämligen lite tankar på att starta upp ett stridssällskap i Stockholm. Perioden är 1066-1300 ungefär, dvs. ringbrynjans och korstågens tid. Vikingarna är alltså uteslutna, vi börjar vid normanderna och slutar runt tiden för Akkas fall i det heliga landet (1291)

Tanken är att i sådana fall starta en grupp med tydlig inriktning på den tidens stridskonst, såväl man mot man som agerande i grupp. Det blir en kombination av fysisk träning och andlig tillfredställelse. Detta var ju trots allt de höga riddaridealens tid. Säkerhet, kunskap och framförallt glädje är ledorden.

Detta är som nämnt alltså bara en intresseinsamling, om projektet blir av, om intresset är stort nog, återkommer jag med mer information. Men om Du känner att detta är intressant skriv gärna en rad i forumet här, eller maila rattle_znake@hotmail.com
