I "Hirdskrå for Norges Konge og hans håndgangne menn" spesifiseres opptaksseremonien til hirden, der den som skal bli hirdmann eller skutilsvein (ridder) får gripe om hjaltet på kongens sverd mens han holder i det, noe som sikkert ble sett som en stor äre. Ellers var det som sagt forbud mot å ha våpen i närheten av kongen.

För övrigt har jag tänkt på liknelsen svärd=skjutvapen. Är inte den lite långsökt? Åtminstone här i Sverige där vi är väldigt restriktiva när det gäller skjutvapen. Under vissa perioder var det lagstadgat att ha en viss uppsättning vapen här i Sverige men nu för tiden är det inte det. Jag har försökt hitta en bättre liknelse men den bästa jag kan komma på är att man skulle se en grupp jägare i full mundering, inklusive neongul väst, hund och bössa. Man blir väl inte direkt rädd (jägare är någonting man är van vid, precis som vapen på medeltiden) men no gfan undrar man vad han gör mitt inne i stan och inte ute i skogen bland rövare och/eller älgar.

Under resa var det dock inte ovanligt att vara beväpnad, särskilt inte när man i scandinavien reste mellan 'nedanskog' (östergötland, västergötland) och 'ovanskog' (uppland å de där andra landen...) Kolmården var känt för att vara fullt med rövare ända in på 1800-talet.

De gånger man bar svärd men inte ville verka så 'krigisk' verkar det ha varit vanligt att linda svärdsbältet runt baljan och bära det på axeln.

Man skulle kunna likna bärandet av svärd med bärandet av pistolhölster idag, dvs vissa urkesgrupper är det ok på (poliser, militärer, säkerthetspersonal)men det skulle känns lite olustigt på någon ute på gatan..

Jag har funderat lite angående hur vapen bars och när.

Tex. hör man mycket om att man inte bär vapen framför kungligheter och liknande, men var går gränsen?
Var det okej att bara spänna av sig svärdet men behålla dolken?

Som riddare/adelsman började man sin dag med att spänna på sig svärdet eller var det bara när man var säker på nu attans blir det strid som man tog fram sitt svärd?

Bilder visar ju oftast adelsmän och liknande med svärd. Men bilderna visar ju oftast inte vardagshändelser - antingen är det posing eller så är det en specifik händelse.
