1175 mm, blad 920 mm 1325 gram resp. 855 mm blad 680 mm 1150 gram. Ca 1400-tal.
Oslipade trubbiga och inte härdade än. Men balanserade.

I min mening ett utmärkt vapen för de flesta situationer och i alla upptänkliga kombinationer.

För att ge lite idéer om skilnaderna mellan långsvärd och kortsvärd. Fakta om Albions Squire Line Swords (se http://www.albion-swords.com/swords/alb ... squire.htm) för att illustrera:

Vikingasvärd 1,19 kg och 92 cm
13th C knightly sword 1,14 och 96 cm
Late 13th C great sword 1,65 och 120 cm
Late 15th Century Bastard Sword 1,35 kg och 108 cm
Sen har vi det vackra Regent med 1,59 kg och 122 cm.

I mina ögon är det inte ngn otrolig skillnad på siffrorna (jag är medveten om att svärden är från olika tidsperioder och användes på väldigt olika sätt, thats beside the point). Så jag köper inte riktigt argumentet att man valde ett kortsvärd över ett långsvärd bara för att det var mkt lättare + väldigt mkt kortare så därför passade det bättre på resande fot. Knappast att medeltidens Svenssons hade en garderob med svärd och valde rätt svärd till rätt tillfälle.

Däremot fanns det säkert andra anledningar. En messer är ju i närheten av ett kortsvärd i längd (http://www.schielhau.org/images/egenolph_19r.gif tagen ur Lecküchner 1478) och var vad jag förstår ett populärt vapen under medeltiden. Men så var det ju åxå en "kniv" och inte ett svärd, så man slapp gå till den dyre svärdssmeden för att få sig en messer utan en sådan kunde ju den enkle knivsmeden göra.

Så till original poster, kan man väl svara "ja". Svärd i alla längder fanns fortfarande under medeltiden och passade olika bra i olika sammanhang [:)]

Jag vet att jag är dåligt insatt i de här grejerna, men långa svärd är väl främst en produkt av strid till häst? En fotsoldat torde väl ha haft ett spjut eller något för försvar mot kavalleri, men ett kortare svärd till närkamper?

Säg att ett enhandssvärd var runt 90cm och en riktigt lång dolk runt 45cm (efter att kollat lite på Björns svärdssida), finns det då något syfte att ha ett svärd som täcker upp de 45cm som skiljer? Det blir ena ett lite för kort svärd eller oxå en för lång dolk!

Att man skulle välja ett kortare svärd för marscher köper jag inte, skillnaden i vikt borde vara försumbar och en lång dolk borde kunna skrämma lika bra som ett svärd.

Svärdet var inget man bar civilt (förrän på 1500-1600-t) och då var det värjan man konkade omkring med! I strid ville man nog ha ett längre svärd!

Kort sagt, jag tror inte att det fanns någon riktig funktion för kortsvärd...
