Näver- och barkflöten har hittats. De större varianterna har troligen suttit på nät, men det finns små flöten som svårligen kan ha hållit ett nät uppe.

Jag har prövat att fiska med tunn hamplina och barkflöte med framgång. Använde inte spö utan satt med linan upprullad på en pinne och höll linan i handen. Tog en inte allt för stor abborro och två sarvar. Linan har en tendens att flyta innan den är genomblöt. När linan sugit åt sig vatten sjunker den ner under vattenytan men ligger fortfarande väldigt ytligt. Antingen har man ett tungt bete eller så nyttjar man ett litet stensänke som jag gjorde.

Frågan är om man använde spö. Hällristningsbilderna kan ju vara en aning svårtolkade. Se till exempel bilden på fiskarna från Ödsmål i Bohuslän. Bilden är från bronsåldern, ca 1000 f kr.

Tusen frågor och tankar dök upp; Finns det några bevis av något slag för- eller emot att man metat med metspö i Sverige under vikingatid? (eller tidigare) Hur har annars krokarna använts? Bara linan i nått handtag? Eller till nät? Från båt? Pimelfiske?
Det verkade så självklart att man alltid metat att jag inte ens funderade över om det förekom 'förr'. [:0]
