Tyvärr är "Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem" (SOSJ) en av de s.k. illegitima johanniterordnarna som finns i Sverige.

Ursprungligen instiftades riddarordnarna av påven. För att vara en äkta riddarorden måste man numera ha en "fons honorum" (hederns/ärans källa), d.v.s. en huvudmannen för en kungaätt eller en statschef som överhuvud. Det kriteriet uppfyller inte SOSJ.

I Sverige finns "Johanniterorden i Sverige" som erkändes av Gustav V 1946 sedan man grenats ut från preussiska Johanniterorden. Den är protestantisk och har ca 350-400 medlemmar, alla män och nära knutet till adeln (tyvärr!!!). Utöver det finns den skandinaviska sammanslutningen av Suveräna Malteserorden (d.v.s. den katolska grenen av johanniterorden) med ett 30-tal medlemmar (kvinnor & män, adliga & icke-adliga). Malteserorden är en stat utan land och leds av en prins stormästare.

Det stod inget om den på katolska kyrkans hemsida, så jag tror det är en ganska fristående välgörenhetsorganisation.

Det finns nåt gäng som reenactar Johanniterorden också, har snackat med dem på Visbyveckan, men det är inte de här.

Någon som vet mer om vad dessa sysslar med. De utger sig för att vara "riktiga" riddare i orden, må vara i modern tappning. Kan de härleda sitt ursprung i johanniterorden? Eller är de är de bara fler som vi som tycker om att "leka" historiskt?
