Och I slutändan var det Ramses som lyckades få mest ordning i en soppig situation.
Men man märker bristen av att författaren inte är utbildad egyptolog när han ger sig in på att tolka formuleringar om att Ramses skulle ha decimerat sin armé efter nederlaget bland annat... Detta var inte bara otänkbart ur egyptisk synvinkel utan kan inte styrkas på basis av texten. Skall inte fördjupa mig för mycket men det säger en del.
Böckerna om slag har en hel del intressant att säga, men man måste läsa med kritiska ögon.

Dock finns det rena guldkron som Hagashino 1575 av Stephen Turnbull, som behandlar ett nyckelslag i japanska historien. Turnbull är erkänd expert på japansk militärhistoria både i Europa och Japan, så han kan sina saker. Synd bara att den handlar om ett ämne som ligger långt från vårat återskapande...

Men har någon tips på andra Osprey-titlar som de verkligen rekommenderar, så är jag idell öra!

Min erfarenhet är att Campaign-serien är något bättre, medan Men-at-arms tenderar att vara slarvigt "sketchiga" och alltför begränsade pga. det minimala utrymmet (undantag finns givetvis). Men som sagt - kvalitén varierar i hög grad. Äger själv många Ospreytitlar, vissa av dessa såsom "Adrianople 378" och "Bannockburn 1314" är riktigt bra böcker som jag varmt kan rekommendera, medan andra såsom "Lake Peipus 1242" är rent skräp. I övrigt kan jag bara instämma i Fardängs beskrivning.

Romartid och medeltid är ofta ganska bra, eller har en substans av fakta som är helt ok. Särskilt de nyare. Men undvik "Scandinavian medieval armies" 1 och 2...
