Karin, du skriver siden i huvudbonader. Dety går alltså bra att ha en klut av siden? jag har alltid tänkt linne men det är säkert ibte bara det som användes till klutar. Klut av siden är alltså bra?

Det finns en slöja i siden funnen i London. Jag skulle tro att siden mest användes av de riktigt rika i slöjor och sådant. Vanligt folk (de som hade klut) använde nog vitt linne. Men det kanske finns en annan tråd där den här diskussionen passar bättre.

Nja, jag håller nog inte riktigt med, det finns rutiga tyger både här och var i manuskripten - Romance of Alexander t ex (MS Bodl 264)

Ehh... men vikingarna hade väl ändå rutiga tyger, fast kanske inte lika utpräglade mönster som kelterna? Fanns det förresten tartans redan under motsvarande vikingatid?

I några av de londonfynd som beskrivs i "Textiles and clothing" används siden bl.a. som förstärkningar vid knapphål. Det är egentligen det enda belägg jag har för siden i annat än huvudbonader.

Jag har en 1340-tals-klänning där ärmarna med tippetsar är fodrade med siden. Den är inte gjord efter ett fynd utan efter en bild, så jag vet inte vilket material det var i orginalet, men den fungerar bra och känns rätt. I mellanklänningen är ärmarna av siden. Det känns inte lika rätt, för jag fryser alltid om armarna i den och tyget är inte ett dugg elastiskt. Jag vet inte om problemen beror på att det är siden eller om jag valde ett tyg med fel bindning eller tjocklek. (Det är sånt där vanligt sidentyg man köper i tygaffären och syr balklänningar av.)
