Åter enligt Harrison är det sex ballader som sjöngs redan på 1400-talet och kanske ännu tidigare, nämligen Gest of Robyn Hode, Robin Hoode his Death, Robin Hood and the Potter, Robin Hood and Guy of Gisborne, Robin Hood and the Monk samt Robin and Gandelyn.

I Armies and Warfare in the Middle Ages: the English Experience av Michael Prestwich (rasande bra bok förresten) står det bl a:

quote:
Early in Edward III's reign some contingents were ordered to wear uniforms, paid for by the local communities. /.../ In some cases, uniforms became quite elaborate. On the Black Prince's 1355 expedition, the men of Cheshire and North Wales wore green and white parti-coloured hats and tunics (min betoning). The development of such garb was associated with the tendency for lords to provide their men with standardised livery robes. The problem of identification in battle was not fully resolved if each lord dressed his men in a distinctive way, and Henry V ordered that 'every man of what estate or condition that he be, of our party, bear a band of St George', much as Edward I's troops had done. /.../ The basic white coat, however, remained the standard wear until the late Tudor period.
