- Annars så är Gustaf en säker och aldrig sinande källa för produktion av tankeväckande hypoteser - de lär bli fler nu när han går i pension "på riktigt" (han har jobbat på Vitterhetsakademien sedan han slutade som professor vid Forskningslabbet)...

På ålderbestämningen så står det järnåldern på getterna, men vikingatiden på Väsbyspännet. Finns det några anteckningar på någon mer exakt datering för getterna? Kan man se på stilen om den är inhemsk eller import?
Björn, förundras över vilka vändningar en fråga kan ta på HV. Lika roligt varje gång man lär sig något nytt[:D]

- Nå i alla fall. "Getspännena" har bland annat diskuterats av Gustaf Trotzig i en artikel i <i>Fornvännen</i> (nr 3/2004) - "Trons försvarare i Birka". Där för han fram en tolkning av "getspännena" som kristet laddade symbolsmycken vilka i sin tur kan kopplas till de sk. "Paradisspännena", t.ex. det från [url="http://www.historiska.se/data/?foremal=112584"]Väsby[/url] i Skå. Sina idéer runt dessa utvecklade han i <i>Iconographisk post</i> (nr 2/1996) och de går ut på att spännenas komposition illustrerar en passage i Psaltaren 2:42 "Som hjorten längtar efter friskt vatten, så längtar jag efter dig, min Gud". Mittknoppen skulle då föreställa berget i paradisets mitt från vilket 4 källor rinner upp. "Rovdjuren" på spännenas ytterkanter vill han se i ljuset av ytterligare ett bibelcitat - Jesaja 11:6: "Då ska vargen bo med lammet, Pantern ligga vid killingens sida. Kalv och lejon går i bet och en liten pojke vallar dem".

- Nu får man <i>tro</i> vad man vill om detta - men det är i vart fall <i>en</i> tolkning av spännena. Jag kan väl invända att det faktiskt finns rätt många likarmade spännen med <u>enbart</u> rovdjurshuvuden, dvs. inga getter, hjortar etc...

Oj, vikingar kan verkligen vara osmakliga!
Teorin om att ryggknappspännet satt på ryggen och var till som motvikt till allt tingel-tangel på framsidan av vikingakvinnan får helt plötsligt en helt ny dimension... Om det nu funnits ryggknappspännen på vikingatiden... Men ändå!
