@ Johan. Du har rätt i att det betyder huvudbonad, dock skiljer man ju på cap och hat så nån form av syftning finns det kanske. Jag är inte riktigt säker på exact vad, min gamla skolengelska ger mig inte tillräcklig kunskap där.

Skulle det vara möjligt att få en hänvisning till bättre bilder på just den typen av mössa som vi ser i bilden jag lade upp. Ett allmänt upprop efter bilder på mössor som liknar denna kanske?

Så exact varför tolkas de som pälsmössor? Rent visuellt kan de ju lika gärna vara en stickad/nålbunden valkad mössa. "Plupparna" i bilden kan ju vara just det mönster som en konstnär uppfattar på ett stickat/nålbundet föremål om det är gjort med tillräckligt grovt garn. Så vilka källor pekar mot pälsmössa? Eller är det en av de många snabba ogenomtänkta tolkningar som sedan tagits som för sanning och inte ifrågastats? Finns det pälsmössor beskrivna i bågskyttesammanhang?

Ber om ursäkt för kvalliteten då jag fotade med mobilkameran.

Killarna ser ut att ha nån slags Belkermössa på sig. Kan vara nån tidigare variant av Nålbundet/stickad mössa. Svårt att avgöra på bilden, men om man tillåter sig en viss spekulation så skulle det kunna vara en representation för en Archers Cap!

Bågskyttar anställda som livvakter (i grupp)är inte helt ovanligt, jag vill minnas att en medeltida dansk eller svensk biskop nämner sin livvakt av bågskyttar specifikt i sitt testamente vilket tyder på en (för de skickligaste?) särställning ifrån övriga vapenslag. Antagligen fick den professionella bågskytten (läs:livvakt)under perioder en tillräckligt hög ersättning för att ha råd med bättre utrustning och kläder än en del andra soldater, frälset undantaget.

(Den gemene bågskytten kan mycket väl ha haft en bävermössa fast jag personligen skulle nog tro att bävermössan snarare var ett unikum än en trend då även bävern tar slut (tillgång < efterfrågan = dyrt)
