När började man använda kilar i dräktkonstruktion för att vidga tunikor? De järnåldersfynd som gjorts är ju alla raka korta tunikor eller peploskjolar (så vitt jag vet i alla fall). Inga Hägg skriver i "Kvinnodräkten i Birka" att kilar inte användes i förmedeltida kläder, men vad innebär det egentligen? Jag är nu inte egentligen ute efter nordiska referenser, utan snarare mellaneuropeiska, eftersom jag antar att den typiska medeltida tunikan med kilar härstammar från den bysantinska/romerska dräkten. Om man ska ha en lång tunika av enbart raka stycken (utan kilar alltså) så blir den ju antingen väldigt smal nertill eller väldigt vid runt livet - och tygerna var väl inte så värst breda heller.

Är det någon av alla kunniga människor här som vet mer om detta och kan förklara?
