Använder en gammal tråd för detta:
Kämpar tappert med min 1100-talsdräkt och fnular just nu på hur jag ska göra min mantel. Vill ha en som ser ut som de i St. Albans:

Jag antar att den är halvcirkelformad och inte fyrkantig som de medeltida. Någon som tror annat?

Mina funderingar kretsar kring exakt hur mantlarna är ihopsydda. Jag tänker att för att komma till det stiliga att de är längre där bak än där fram, har man sytt ihop manteln så att sömmen ligger lodrätt på ryggen och ett hål för huvudet lämnas när man syr ihop den. Någon med bra teorier? Kunskap?
Sedan har jag en fundering över de guldiga kanterna, är det siden som har sytts på för snygghet/styrka?

Borde jag alltså använda den röda sidan utåt och kanske fodra insidan? Går det att fodra i linne?

I bildmaterialet blir de emellertid ovanligare och man verkar mest ha tjockare plagg av samma typ som de andra plaggen. Från slutet av 1400-talet och början av 1500-talet kan man se kvinnomantlar som är rynkade mot en krage, jag har ännu inte funderat färdigt på hur de är konstruerade.
Fodra gärna din mantel förresten. Vanligast är gråverk, mård, kläde och andra ylletyger.
