att man har en tanke om hur mycket något är värt finns ju även innom byteshandel. Ett vargskinn är värt si eller så många kaninskinn. Men silver hade kanske ett mer bestående värde, som inte var lika beroende av behov (dvs en båt är värd mer för de som bor vid kusten än de som bor i skogen)

Bla visades det att (på ovan nämnda föreläsning) att vikten på ringar av östligt ursprung men funna på Gotland stämmer med fynd av viktmått från England (tror det var York).
Så även om det inte fanns ett monetärt system av den sort vi har idag så verkar det som att det fanns en vida spridd samstämmighet om värdet av tex ett stycke silver av en specifik vikt (och renhet).

Syckesilvret hade man som oftast i spiraler av olika tjocklek och i vissa fall som tenar. Sedan högg man bort så mycket som behövdes.

Sitter här i förberedelserna inför ett levande rollspel och skall ge mig i kast med ett avsnitt om handel. Det är vikingatid som gäller då.
Hur var egentligen med prissättningen? Det nämns i isländska sagor att ett öre siler var lika mycket som en aln vadmal eller är jag ute och cyklar?
Jag behöver alltså hjälp med vad saker och ting kostade. Hästar, boskap, svärd, hjälmar, skepp, tyg, salt, silver, guld, bärnsten etc etc etc.. Ja, ni förstår. Sådant som kan tänkas dyka upp till salu.
