Jag kan inte dra mig till minnes några blommor men armborstets storlek jämfört med lejonets var större än dagens, även lejonets svans hade en annorlunda form, dåtidens hade mer formen av en åtta.

Det andra vapnet som hade anknytning till armborst var dalarnas, så klart. Röd botten med två korslagda pilar i guld. Pilarna påminde dock inte om dalpilar utan mer om den typ som idag återfinns i Närkes vapen. Kronan fanns men jag vill minnas den som aningen annorlunda än dagens.

Intressant är kanske också att Småländerna ingick i Östergötlands lagsaga under medeltid.

Tydligen var det så att varje landskap ofta fick nya vapen när en kung skulle begravas. Det verkar även varit då som de företrädesvis användes.

I Bror Emil Hildebrand (1860-tal) finns alla då kända medeltida sigill fram till 1370-talet. Vad jag minns finns det inte ett enda svenskt vapen där med armborst, möjligen finns det i vapensköldar från 1400-talet (vilket kan antyda lite om armborstets användning i Sverige eftersom man på den tiden gärna använda moderna föremål i sina sköldar, inget romantiskt tjafs där inte *ler*)

Smålands armborst har tolkats som en referens till småländsk stridsteknik i Dackeupproret. Vad jag vet har inte kung Erik XIV uttryckligen skrivit ner vad han menade så vi får förlita oss på gissningar.

Skämt åsido, de flesta "landskapsvapen" är vad jag vet mer sentida än medeltiden; de som går att härleda dit verkar vara släktvapen som man har överfört till ett landskap i stället. Just Småland är ju också ett specialfall, eftersom det är ett konglomerat av en massa småområden.

När det gäller den ursprungliga frågan: Huvudkällan till heraldiska vapen från medeltiden är sigillbilder. Det finns ett par gamla bokserier utgivna med sigill, och dessutom finns en stor del av dem återgivna i Ranekes "Svenska medeltidsvapen", I-III
