Correct Swedish term, please!

Well, so I am supposed to be fluent in both languages, but occasionlly I stumble onto stuff I can't figure out. I am currently writing an essay on the bronze age, where all English texts refer to the deposition of hoards amongst the ancinet Celts of Europe at the time. Oftentimes the Swedish texts then speak of "silverskatter", but that is to do with the viking age, for one, and these hoards are not mainly of silver, but rather bronze, gold and other materials. Sometimes they contain strictly Roman coins, for example, and sometimes massive amounts of gold torcs. So what word is technically correct, for the bronze age? Depåfynd?

Tyra,

Translated in word order: Depotdiscovery

The trem refers according to: www.historiska.se/collections/ordbok/bok/Depafynd.html

Depåfynd: is refering to objects that has been sacrificed (mainly in bogs) or buried treasure intended to be recovered at a later stage (often within the settlement perimeter). Alternative Swedish terms are: "offerfynd" or "skattfynd"

I hope this helps in order to find a more appropiate term that has the same relevancy within the english speaking archaeological community.

Cheers
Todd

Oh! I thought Tyra wanted to know if Depåfynd was the correct term! *doh* Funny how different the same text can be interpreted!

"Depåfynd" is the word I learnt to use for any kind of intentional deposit of objects when I studied archaeology. Bronze Age, Iron Age - any age, really. It has pretty much the exact same meaning as the English "hoard".

OK, cool. Then I'll use that, 'cause I really can't find anything that suits me better. Thank you all for your quick response! This is what happens when my brain gets hit with the flu and can't think in one language, let alone two!!
